At one time the only measure of blood fats a doctor would look at was total cholesterol. This expanded to include different forms of cholesterol including another type of fat called triglycerides.
Now, it looks like yet another blood fat marker will be added to the list and may possibly replace some of the others. Not only is this marker believed to be a far more accurate predictor of heart disease, but a new study shows elevated levels will lead to an early grave.
This marker is called apolipoprotein B.
