Surprising Life Extending-Benefits of Old Pharmaceuticals

By |2019-07-25T12:22:56-04:00July 25th, 2019|Pharmacology|

One well-known drug is a popular headache remedy, another is prescribed for diabetes, and a third is given to patients who’ve had a kidney transplant.

These seem unlikely candidates for helping healthy people add years to their lives. But it looks like that’s exactly what they do.

Should you take one or more of these medications the way you’d take a supplement? Let’s try to sort it out. . .

“Almost Like a Miracle”

All drugs have side effects, and when we hear that phrase we almost always think of bad side effects.

Yet some drugs have beneficial “off label” attributes. For instance, hundreds of […]

Drugs of This Type are Known to Extend Lifespan

In a number of widely different species – yeast, worms, flies, mice – there’s a class of pharmaceuticals proven to slow aging and lengthen lifespan.

Many anti-aging researchers believe these drugs, called rapalogs, (the best known being rapamycin) hold out real hope for extending human life.

One of the researchers is Mikhail Blagosklonny, cell stress biologist at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York. To quote his very upbeat opinion, “Given that rapamycin consistently extends maximal lifespan in mice, rapamycin will likely allow mankind to beat the current record of human longevity, which is 122 years.”

Is he right? Let’s take a look. […]

‘Youth Drug’ Popular with the Rich and Powerful (You Can Get It, Too)

Almost 70 years ago, Dr. Ana Aslan, a cardiologist from Rumania, pioneered a treatment to fight aging. It was an injected local anesthetic called procaine (Novocaine), combined with antioxidants and stabilizing agents. You probably know Novocaine as an anesthetic dentists use to numb the teeth and jaw.

The remedy was said to boost health and vitality, and was touted as an elixir of youth. This encouraged rich and famous people like Charlie Chaplin, Kirk Douglas, John F. Kennedy and Winston Churchill to fly to Dr. Aslan’s clinic in a small city called Otopeni.

Her remedy was called Gerovital H3 (GH3), and today […]

Herbal-Probiotic Combo Extended Life 60% in This Study

By |2018-08-23T10:52:25-04:00August 23rd, 2018|Pharmacology|

When researchers investigated the effects of a traditional herbal medicine in a lab at Canada’s McGill University, they expected to find a few health benefits that would give them reason to study it further.

Instead, the results were stunning.

The tests produced evidence that the botanical blend, combined with a probiotic supplement, could extend life by about 60 percent in animal experiments.

“We did not imagine how successful this formulation would be,” says researcher Susan Westfall in an understatement.

Part of The “New” Discovery is Really Ancient

The blend the researchers are studying is triphala, a combination of three fruits that is used by the […]

Declining quality and activity of mitochondria – often called the cells’ “batteries” – is associated with many age-related diseases and a wide range of processes that make us age faster.

Rejuvenating mitochondria can potentially add years to a person’s life.

To do just that, some researchers have developed a new mitochondrial antioxidant supplement, and a science journal has just published the results of the first human clinical trial to test its effectiveness. This is what they found. . .

Concentrates in the Mitochondria

A research team from the University of Colorado, Boulder first tested the supplement called MitoQ on mice in 2014.

Old mice, the […]

This Common Prescription Drug Halts the Aging Process

The herb known as goat’s rue (Galega officinalis) has traditionally been used by mothers to increase their breast milk while nursing an infant. But there’s also a drug derived from this herb that researchers believe may be able to help you live longer and fight aging.

Scientists investigating this pharmaceutical have uncovered evidence that it can moderate blood sugar, lower the risk of heart disease,1 influence cellular metabolic processes and lead mitochondria (the organelles in cells that produce energy) to do things that make cells healthier.

The drug is metformin, an off-patent diabetes drug that’s been used for about 60 years and usually has […]

The Versatile Herb That Fights Off Old Age

Most of the time, if you hear about health benefits that seem too good to be true, it’s because they are. Be skeptical.

But I think I’ve come across an anti-aging exception to that rule: the herb rhodiola. Here’s what has me so excited.

Rhodiola rosea, also known as golden root, is a classic adaptogen, a substance that adjusts one of your body’s processes either up or down, as needed.

For example, if your immune system is too amped up, leading to harmful inflammation, an adaptogen may calm it down. If your immunity is too laid back, and allowing you to get sick too […]

You know how people often say you just don’t have the energy you used to have as you get older? As the old joke says, “My get up and go got up and went.” People seem to think it’s inevitable.

But it’s not.

Waning energy and lack of motivation could be symptoms of a deficiency of an essential neurotransmitter. It’s a common thing that happens to people over 50.

If you’ve been feeling like the thrill is gone, read on for an illuminating explanation and how to reverse it.

The essential neurotransmitter I’m talking about is dopamine.

What Dopamine Is And Why You Need It
